Springridge Farm

The Hughes family has been involved in fruit farming for over 100 years. Farmer John’s parents, Leslie and Jane Hughes, purchased this farm in 1960 when their farm in Mississauga (Dixie & Dundas) was sold for development. They purchased the farm from the Hartley family. The Hartley’s were fruit farmers as well and they had been here since the turn of the century. There are many seniors in Milton with fond memories of picking fruit as a youngster on the “old Hartley farm.”

We are still listening to our customers and are always prepared to adapt to their needs. John is responsible for the farm operation of our business and Laura looks after the barn market, tours and special events. Amy and brother Tom both work full time on the farm, sister Sarah still helps part-time on busy weekends.

The farm is open daily 9-5 from mid-April until Christmas.

Mill Pond and Centennial Park

Milton’s earliest beginnings can be traced back to 1825, when an enterprising young man named Jasper Martin built a gristmill on a mill pond. By harvesting the power of the swiftly flowing water, Jasper’s gristmill prospered and grew to become the centre of a settlement called Martin’s Mills, with a population of just 100 people in 1837.

The townspeople soon changed the name of the town to Milton because of the Martin family’s fondness for the poet John Milton. The Town of Milton was incorporated in 1857 and the first Town Council meeting was held in the County Buildings, where the current Town Hall is still located, on July 4, 1857.

Today, the Mill Pond is still flourishing in the centre of town, but without the gristmill, surrounded by a landscaped park. This gathering place is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts who want to walk, picnic and fish or just sit on a bench to enjoy the nature around them.

Andrews' Scenic Acres

Our family operated farm was established in 1980. We now proudly grow 175 acres of luscious fruit and vegetables. Our home farm is dedicated 100% to pick your own crops starting the first weekend in May with tulips, rhubarb and asparagus. Strawberries start ripening in June, followed by raspberries, cherries, currants, gooseberries, blueberries, elderberries, gourds, Indian corn and pumpkins. A diverse selection of cut your own flowers for bouquets include: sunflowers, celosia, gladioli, dahlias, roses, lilies, peonies and iris.

We enjoy the opportunity of introducing children or adults to the complexities of modern day agriculture and do our best to explain the growing of various crops, starting with Blossom Tours in May and finishing with pumpkin picking on October 31st. In between, tour participants plant pumpkin seeds, pick rhubarb, feed animals, pick crops of strawberries, blueberries, summer and fall raspberries, gourds, Indian corn and apples. We will provide an agricultural and food experience for children and adults alike. Tell us what items on the curriculum you want us to cover on the tour and we will adapt to meet your needs.

With a beautiful picnic area, a large creative playground, a farm animal corral and free hay rides, a visit to Andrews Scenic Acres is a pleasurable family occasion. We have a full range of drinks and snacks in the shop or farm market so there is no need to bring food and drink to the farm. Starting September 1st we also have available our gently haunted forest, straw jump and cornfield. To cover the cost of these additional attractions, we charge $2.00 per person from September 15th to October 31st for admission to the fun farm area. There is no charge for entrance to the farm market and winery.

On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays we operate our very popular B-B-Q. Available on the B-B-Q are large hotdogs, Oktoberfest type sausages and veggie burgers. Starting later July or early August, we also have available hot buttered super sweet corn on the cob. Our sweet corn is cooked in a turn of the century iron kettle formerly used for boiling maple syrup.
