A few more thoughts on the uniforms:

How ‘bout the Leafs’ ode to simplicity, the Oilers brand spanking new (practice) jerseys and Sinloois’ untied bib/apron strings look?? Atlanta still has the worst left sleeve in all of pro sports and the Phliars tinkered when they should have blown up the black jersey and gone back to the Clarkenbacher orange ones a la 1975.

Panthers are awful, Isles are bloody awful (okay, they’re growing on me a bit because the previous ones were just so damn dull) and San Jose’s new jerseys are a train wreck with the new gold colour added - I was in the minority, but I LOVED their previous jerseys with the grey sleeves - they just looked more ’sharkish’ - the new gold colour looks out of place.

Vancouver and Dallas inexplicably decided to add large block letters across the front with the city name. Van City at least went back to the nifty blue/green look, but ruined it with the name, and Dallas, like Philly, blew their chance to ditch the black jerseys and go back to the North Star/London Knight green look, which Ess and I will agree is the best colour scheme for hockey. At least they ditched the giant star look across the entire shirt….

The new rounded hemline on the bottom of the shirts is also wreaking havoc with the original six jerseys, which look ridiculous now with horizontal stripes (hence the leafs’ removal of them completely). NYR, Det, Boston and Chicago’s classic stripes now look silly on the back when you get the ‘diaper effect.’

One of the biggest blunders has to be Calgary abandoning their albeit ugly flaming horse thing on their shoulder for ridiculously large and out-of-place looking Canadian and neon, glowing blue Alberta flags on the shoulders, and lots of ridiculous black and yellow underarm piping.

The best? Phoenix, like the Leafs, removed the horizontal stripes but added them to their pants and they now have a classic look with an interesting colour; Ottawa is better without the swooping diagonal stripe through the middle of the shirt (their hosiery is a different story); the Caps makeover simply rocks and the Bruins went back to almost their identical 70’s look with the baddest-ass shoulder patches in the league!

I’m stoked !! Only two weeks away from them wreaking havoc on the lowly Bolumbus Lambs, Hamilton Predators and Chicago Pay-Per-Views. Great division.

I’ll bet the first taker a shiny nickel that they make the playoffs (actually the nickel is bad luck — just look at my picks for football this week)

How dare you bring them into this travesty on such a holy day (My first live viewing of the Flyers tonight!).
